TechCrunch Has Acquired F’dCompany.com - Tomorrow we will announce that we have acquired Philip “Pud” Kaplan’s F’dCompany.com in a stock for assets transaction.

Blizzard Introduces the Tinfoil Hat - Every engineer knows that in order to achieve true greatness, it is imperative to always keep a clear, unclouded mind and to protect one’s secrets from those who would seek to steal or plagiarize the radical new designs of a hard-working genius. The Tinfoil Hat is the logical result of this profound insight, combining tinfoil’s powerful mental shielding properties with the excellent counter-hexing effect of troll tears and the outstanding mind-focus powers of one of Azeroth’s most precious gems.

Webkit Shutting Down - IE has often been criticized for its lack of standards compliance and long gaps in development. But Microsoft says they will do way better in the future, and we see no reason not to trust them with the future of the web.
It’s been a great ride these past five years. Please join me in giving a fond farewell to WebKit, and a hearty welcome to our new Microsoft overlords.
These are just some of the April Fools going on. What are your favorites from this year?

Got my beta invite for Joost today. All I can say is WOW! Really not what I was expecting, really blew me away.

What is Joost, you ask?
Well, to quote the Joost website:
Joost™ is a new way of watching TV on the internet, which uses new and established technologies to provide the best of both the internet and TV worlds. We’re in the process of making it as TV-like as we can, with programmes, channels and adverts. You can also see some things that we think will enhance the TV experience: searching for programmes and channels, for example, as well as social features like chat.
Picture is really crisp, streaming is awesome. Sat and watched several things this morning and was left utterly speechless.

There are a lot of channels to choose from, and this being beta, I was surprised that the quality and quantity of programming is so great.

I should be receiving some ‘tokens’ to give some others a taste of Joost. So if you ask really nice, when I receive them, you just may get lucky.

I am always looking for cool little apps, especially ones that mimic Mac OS X apps. I love my Mac, but I tend to do most of my design and development work on my PC. Yeah, I know, I know. I should be using my Mac for design. That’s a whole other saga.

I reported a while ago on my own blog about Y’z Dock, an OS X style application dock, unfortunately they were told to stop by Steve Jobs’ team of lawyers. Well we shall see how Punk Software, the makers of RocketDock, fare. They have come up with a similar type of application as Y’z Dock, but in my opinion have done a better job executing it.
I recently installed this little app, and like the ease of use in adding additional icons. They also have a usable screen to adjust specific icon settings.
You can even have it hold minimized windows like the OS X version:

Definitely check this out if you are a PC user looking for some Mac style.

So long old friend, it’s been good to know you…

Well my old MS Wireless Intellimouse Explorer finally bit the dust. I’m on my computer an average of 12 hours a day, and have used this mouse for the last 5 or so years, so I was pretty happy it lasted this long. The left button finally gave out, and I was getting rather tired of changing batteries. It seemed I was getting to the poing of needing new batteries once a week or so. All in all though the Intellimouse was a pretty sturdy workhorse and I was really happy with it.
In with the new…

So what to do now? I could just use the mouse that came with my Wacom Intuos 3, but I like to keep my mouse next to my keyboard, and it would be awkward with the way my setup is now.

So I took off to my friendly neighborhood electronics shop and big box warehouse stores. Played with a few on display, checked pricing online, and voila - my choice…drum roll…
The Logitech MX Revolution. Find it at Amazon less than $65.

I love it so far, though I’ve only been using it for about half a day. I’ll be sure to post more comments once I’ve had a chance to put it through the rigors of day to day abuse.
